Guided Tours

Available to groups from as little as $2.50 per person, our guided tours operate from Monday to Wednesday and are available by appointment.

Educational Tours

We at the Mareeba Heritage Centre would like to let you know how we can assist you with the Humanities and Social Sciences programme.

The tour guides have familiarised themselves with the HASS component of the new Australian Curriculum and feel confident that they can provide valuable and informative back-up for in-class lessons by the teachers. Just some of the areas that can be covered are  Aboriginal Culture, Local Explorers and local History, Early Settlers, Gold and Timber Industries, Advances in Technology, Health, Transport etc.

Information from the teachers about what subjects they would like covered at the time of booking is helpful. The guides will deliver the tour in a manner according to the ages of the particular class visiting.

For guided School Tours, we charge each student a fee of $2.50. The accompanying teachers and assisting parents are free.

As always, there will be new teachers at your school who will not be familiar with the Mareeba Heritage Museum.  We would be very happy to give theses teachers a walk around the Museum to give them some idea of what we can offer.

We are also aware that teaching staff are required to complete extra professional hours out of school time. We can assist by offering free Museum Tours, along with tea and coffee. This is an opportunity for teachers to discuss curriculum matters with the guides.  Once again please make a booking.

If you are a small school and funds are limited, and that hiring a bus to bring students to the Museum may not be a viable option for you.  Our guides are happy to come to you, perhaps bringing suitable artefacts for the suggested lesson.  We will do this for a fee of $50.00, and the visit can be as long or short as you wish. We ask that you contact our Museum and make a booking.

Perhaps you may wish to discuss some of the options with our Museum Guides (either Mary or Jackie) by phoning us at the Museum Mondays to Wednesdays 9.00am to 11.00am.
